Egg donor requirements may vary by clinic, but there are common qualifications expected. At Main Line Fertility, our basic qualifications for becoming an egg donor are as follows:

• You must be a woman between the ages of 19-29.
• You should maintain a healthy lifestyle with a normal Body Mass Index (BMI).
• There should be no family history of inherited genetic disorders or conditions.
• You must be a non-smoker and non-drug user.
• You should have regular menstrual cycles and a healthy reproductive system.
• You should have a flexible schedule and commitment to seeing the process through to completion.

The Egg Donation Process

Donating your eggs for someone else to grow their family is an incredible gift, and it's a decision that should not be taken lightly. Once you decide to apply to become an egg donor, you must remain committed throughout the entire process. After completing the application and meeting the initial requirements, you'll undergo a series of physical and mental health exams (free of charge to you) to ensure that you're in good health and mentally prepared for donation. You should be prepared to answer detailed questions about your health and medical history.

When a recipient is matched with you, you'll go through a process called egg stimulation, which aims to develop as many mature follicles as possible. This involves self-injecting medications several times a day for a couple of weeks. Once your eggs are mature, your doctor will perform an egg retrieval procedure using a catheter and a needle. This procedure is quick and typically not painful, with most patients returning to work the next day.
