Endometrial Receptivity Analysis (ERA)

Establish The Optimal Time For Embryo Transfer

Many patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF)  are unable to get pregnant, even after transferring good-quality embryos. Although a good-quality embryo is an important starting point, it is also important to transfer the embryo into a uterus that is ready to receive the embryo.

The timing of embryo transfer must coordinate with your body’s menstrual cycle, neither too early nor too late, but at just the right time. For most patients, the best time to transfer an embryo is the same, but for some, it can be different.

Main Line Fertility offers patients the Igenomix ERA® test to help avoid implantation failure by establishing the best day for embryo transfer.

How ERA Works

The ERA process involves a quick and simple endometrial biopsy, followed by advanced molecular testing.

  1. Endometrial Biopsy: A small sample of the uterine lining is collected, typically during a mock cycle, to assess receptivity.
  2. RNA Extraction: The sample is processed to extract RNA, which contains critical information about gene activity in the endometrium.
  3. NGS Analysis: Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is used to analyze the RNA profile, identifying patterns linked to endometrial receptivity.
  4. Report Generation: A detailed report categorizes the endometrium as pre-receptive, receptive, or post-receptive.
  5. Timing Embryo Transfer: Based on the results, the embryo transfer is scheduled at the most optimal time to improve implantation success.

This personalized approach helps optimize IVF outcomes by ensuring embryo transfer aligns with the most receptive phase of the endometrial cycle.

Receptive vs Non-Receptive Results

A receptive result indicates that the window of implantation is "open" at the time and day the sample is taken. This means patients can proceed with embryo transfer under the same conditions as during the biopsy.

A non-receptive result indicates a displaced window of implantation. In this case, we'll use the ERA computational predictor to estimate your optimal window of implantation.

Who Benefits From ERA Testing?

It’s estimated that 3 in 10 women have a displaced window of implantation, interfering with their chances of pregnancy success with IVF. Patients undergoing assisted reproductive treatment who have suffered an implantation failure may benefit most from ERA testing.
