Getting Started FAQs

  • Fertility specialists are medical doctors who diagnose, treat, and support individuals and couples facing challenges in growing their families. They perform testing to identify the causes of infertility and then recommend personalized treatment plans that may include assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Fertility specialists assist a diverse range of individuals, including heterosexual and cisgender couples, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and intended solo parents. They also provide support for those interested in fertility preservation, like egg freezing.

  • If you're under the age of 35 and have been trying to conceive for at least a year without success, or if you are over the age of 35 and have been trying to conceive for at least six months, it's advisable to consult with a fertility specialist. Additionally, if you're part of the LGBTQ+ community, you may also want to speak with a fertility specialist about options for third-party reproduction, such as using an egg donor, sperm donor, or surrogate, to help you grow your family.

  • At your first visit, you'll be greeted by a fertility care coordinator who will review the new patient visit checklist and your insurance with you. Then, you'll meet with a member of our clinical care team who will review your medical history and, depending on the purpose of your visit, perform a transvaginal ultrasound and lab work.

Our clinical care team will also discuss the benefits of genetic carrier screening and you will have the option to test. During the consultation with your physician, you'll discuss your medical history and family-planning goals, as well as review the results of available tests. Your doctor will work with you and your partner (if applicable) to create a personalized treatment plan.
